 FBI has arrested a man

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently made an arrest in Tennessee concerning a threat to kill immigrants in Eagle Pass, Texas. Paul Faye Sr. was apprehended in Nashville on Friday, Feb. 2, after attempting to sell an unregistered rifle muzzle suppressor to an undercover FBI agent. Faye allegedly disclosed to undercover agents that he and members of a paramilitary group intended to harm migrants in Eagle Pass.

This arrest follows closely on the heels of a convoy event attended by secessionist and white nationalist-affiliated individuals, which made its way to the Eagle Pass area. Supporters lined the convoy’s route, waving flags as it progressed. Hundreds of trucks, cars, and other vehicles convened in Dripping Springs, Texas, on Feb. 2, 2024, embarking on a slow convoy journey via San Antonio and Uvalde to Quemado and ultimately Eagle Pass, Texas. The convoy aimed to highlight concerns about perceived border insecurity in the United States.

The FBI had been investigating Paul Faye Sr. since March 2023, prompted by his association with another individual who had discussed intentions to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border to engage in acts of violence. Undercover agents established a rapport with Faye last year to delve into his plans. Faye allegedly revealed to these agents over phone calls his intentions to shoot migrants in Eagle Pass, Texas, in collaboration with members of a paramilitary group.

Faye faces the possibility of a 10-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine if convicted on charges related to the possession or transfer of a nonregistered firearm (Suppressor), according to the criminal complaint.

In response to Faye’s arrest, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement, accusing Republicans in the state of inciting domestic terrorism. Hinojosa criticized their welcoming of MAGA extremists to the border while spreading what he described as racist lies and fueling hatred toward migrants and border communities. He asserted that the lack of real solutions to the humanitarian crisis and the propagation of divisive rhetoric could lead to bloodshed, placing blame on Governor Greg Abbott.

Texas Public Radio has sought comment from Governor Abbott’s office regarding the situation.
