Suryakumar Yadav’s catch of South Africa’s David Miller was praised by India’s fielding coach T Dilip, who claimed that it was a “game-changing” moment in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
In Barbados, India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the Twenty20 World Cup 2024 final.
After the game, Dilip spoke with the media and mentioned that, in addition to dismissing Quinton De Kock in the 13th over, Kuldeep Yadav made a crucial catch.
“Kuldeep Yadav took an important catch of Quinton De Kock, but Surakumar Yadav’s catch was outstanding, it was a game-changing moment,” T Dilip said.
He praised Team India, saying they maintained their intensity and adjusted well to various surfaces.
Regarding Suryakumar Yadav’s catch, the Indian fielding coach stated that during practice sessions, he would have taken fifty such catches. In addition, he gave Suryakumar credit for being alert during the catch.
Regarding Surya’s catch, during the practise sessions he would have taken fifty of these catches. However, when that time comes during a match, it’s his decision, his awareness of the rope, his knowledge, and his confidence to throw it up and come inside that matter,” he continued.

India’s position in the match was salvaged after being down to 34/3 thanks to a counterattacking partnership of 72 runs between Virat and Axar Patel. The two best bowlers for South Africa were Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje. Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen each claimed a wicket.
Proteas was reduced to 12/2 in the chase for 177 runs, but Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs’ 58-run partnership salvaged the game for SA. India faced the possibility of losing the game because of Heinrich Klaasen’s fifty-year career. But in the final overs, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik produced a brilliant comeback, limiting South Africa to 169/8 in their 20 overs.
Virat’s effort earned him the title of “Player of the Match.” India’s wait for an ICC trophy is now over as they won their first one since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
