After winning the T20 World Cup, two of India’s all-time greatest cricket players, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, announced their retirements from the Twenty20 format yesterday. India captain Rohit Sharma made the announcement during the official press conference following the match, while skipper Kohli made the announcement minutes after the historic victory.
In the thrilling final encounter against South Africa, India had to defend a target of 176 runs. With thirty runs to be scored from the final thirty deliveries, the Proteas seemed to be in control. But at the pivotal moments, India’s bowlers, headed by Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh, maintained composure. Especially in the last over, Pandya was brilliant, successfully protecting 16 runs to give India a thrilling seven-run victory.
