Apple announces a cooperation with OpenAI

Apple announces a cooperation with OpenAI as part of its increased focus on artificial intelligence

Apple is fully embracing AI, introducing a number of new AI capabilities as well as a collaboration with OpenAI, the company that makes ChatGPT. During its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday afternoon, the business made the announcement.

This much-awaited artificial intelligence collaboration is a first for Apple, which analysts have noted has adopted AI more slowly than other tech giants like Microsoft and Google.

Through the agreement, OpenAI, one of the most well-known artificial intelligence firms in recent years, will make its technology available to millions of Apple consumers. OpenAI has already formed alliances with other publishing and technology firms, including a multibillion-dollar agreement with Microsoft.

According to Apple software director Craig Federighi, OpenAI will be incorporated into Siri, the company’s digital assistant, during the conference. According to Federighi, this would enable people to seek for assistance with tasks like coming up with recipes, decorating their rooms, or writing stories.

Federighi said, “Let’s say you want to write a special bedtime story for your six-year-old who enjoys solving puzzles and butterflies.” “Enter your initial concept and submit it to ChatGPT.”

The statement is made at a time when AI has seen both spectacular advances and some humiliating defeats. Artificial intelligence (AI) assistants and chatbots have been plagued by problems such as plagiarism, hallucinations, and biased or inaccurate outcomes. Actress Scarlett Johansson’s voice has allegedly been plagiarized by OpenAI without her consent.

Additionally, the Justice Department and fifteen states have launched an antitrust complaint against Apple. Apple is accused by the government of exploiting its monopoly status to drive out competitors and maintain its user base. It’s unclear how this case may be affected by Apple’s recent collaboration with OpenAI.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, wrote on X, then known as Twitter, just after Apple made its announcement. “Very happy to be partnering with apple to integrate chatgpt into their devices later this year!” believe you’ll enjoy it a lot.

Apple is also releasing its own line of generative AI software, which it refers to as Apple Intelligence.

According to the business, Apple Intelligence will allow for phone call transcription, AI photo editing, and enhancements to Siri’s natural conversation flow. Notifications, text messages, articles, papers, and open web pages can all be summarized using the software.

Federighi emphasized the importance of privacy, citing Private Cloud Compute as a new approach that will protect user data.

According to Apple, the additional functions will be available later in the year.
