Old banknotes featuring the late Queen Elizabeth II will continue to be accepted as legal cash, so you may still use them to make purchases in establishments. When they get destroyed, King Charles III banknotes will gradually take their place.

Winston Churchill is still featured on the back of the £5 note, Jane Austen is on the £10 note, JMW Turner is on the £20 note, and Alan Turing is on the £50 note. Additionally, the notes’ design stays true to the color scheme and patterns that were first unveiled in 2017 when polymer was used.

Governor Andrew Bailey of the Bank of England made the following statement before to the notes’ release: “I am really happy that the Bank is revealing the design of our new banknotes, which will bear an image of King Charles III. The King is only the second monarch to appear on our banknotes, thus this is a momentous occasion. In 2024, when these new notes go into circulation, people will be able to utilize them.”
