Real Madrid Blow Away Title Rivals Girona With Thumping 4-0 Victory

Real Madrid dominated Girona at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, winning 4-0 and significantly strengthening their grip on the LALIGA title race. Girona, previously close behind Real Madrid, suffered their biggest defeat of the season. The victory puts Real Madrid in a commanding position, with just 14 games remaining. Girona, once a surprise package, had only suffered one defeat prior to this match. However, their hopes were dashed by Real Madrid’s formidable performance, reminiscent of Barcelona’s historic 5-0 win over Real Madrid in 1945.

Girona faced challenges ahead of their match against Real Madrid, as coach Míchel received a touchline ban and key players like Yangel Herrera and Daley Blind were suspended due to accumulated yellow cards. On the other side, Real Madrid also had their own concerns, with Antonio Rüdiger sidelined due to injury, leaving Carlo Ancelotti with no available central defenders for the game.
Real Madrid didn’t face many defensive challenges, as Girona couldn’t manage a single shot on target at the Bernabéu. The scoring started early, with Vinícius Júnior netting a superb curling shot from the edge of the box just six minutes into the game.

After Vinícius Júnior’s opener, Real Madrid seized control, leaving space for Jude Bellingham to capitalize. The Englishman scored two more goals, extending the league leaders’ lead convincingly. Adding to the brilliance, Rodrygo Goes scored the fourth goal, maneuvering through Girona’s defense and curling the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga. However, Joselu missed an opportunity to make it five when his penalty kick hit the post just before full-time.
