Marianne Williamson suspends presidential campaign

 Marianne Williamson

Marianne Williamson announced on Wednesday night that she is ending her Democratic presidential campaign. The 71-year-old author shared the news in a video posted on social media, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to shed light during difficult times.

Her decision to suspend her campaign came after a significant defeat by President Biden in the Nevada Democratic primary. Williamson, along with Rep. Dean Phillips, had launched unlikely bids to challenge Mr. Biden’s incumbent bid for the White House last year. Phillips remains in the race and expressed admiration for Williamson’s courage and principles.

Despite Mr. Biden’s refusal to debate his challengers, Williamson and Phillips participated in a debate on Jan. 8 in New Hampshire, where they hoped to gain ground in Mr. Biden’s absence from the ballot. However, a successful write-in effort for Mr. Biden led to his victory in New Hampshire, effectively ending the challenges posed by Williamson and Phillips for the White House.

Marianne Williamson also ran in the 2020 Democratic primary, facing challenges throughout her campaign. Prior to dropping out of the race, she had to make the difficult decision to lay off her entire staff. This action came after she failed to meet fundraising and polling thresholds, except for the first debate.

During her recent campaign cycle, Williamson encountered similar difficulties. She went through three different campaign managers in a relatively short period. Carlos Cardona, her most recent campaign manager, revealed to CBS News that he departed from her campaign the day after New Hampshire’s primary.
